The Inclined are Bill Paukert and Jeremy Withers, an electro synth-pop band, based in Providence, RI.

Before forming The Inclined, the duo were the core of the indie rock band Ellison, the earliest version of which featured Bill on drums and keyboards and Jeremy on bass. Bill soon stepped out from behind the kit to take over guitar and lead vocal duties - after that, Ellison morphed as various supporting members came and went and made their marks on the band’s sound. Shifting drum and second guitar duties saw the band through one full-length studio release and one EP. Eventually Ellison disbanded, leaving Jeremy and Bill to reevaluate their musical circumstances.

Now the pair have shifted their focus and attention to writing music that is reminiscent of their combined musical roots— synth-pop meets indie rock and a little dose of the unexpected. Their newest batch of songs is the result of time spent playing, writing and manipulating guitars, synths, bass and drums in their own recording studio. The focus was on making sure that each song had its own distinct identity, yet meshed with the album as a whole. The result, “The First Day of Many” manages to span The Inclined’s influences while remaining distinctly theirs.

Reviews

“Standout tracks on the latter half of The First Day of Many sway from sweaty dance floor to 4 am stoner session, arriving with the melodic swirl of the title track and the slinky and sexy “Turn Around.” The sun rises on the uptempo “Under Pressure,” the uplifting vibe appropriately closing the album as the duo hit full stride and clearly find their niche. With its driving opening riff, handclaps, sweeping keys, and a king-size chorus, I’m baffled as to why this song isn’t on alt/indie-FM radio once per hour. Paukert stands tall while coasting through filtered vocals with the declarations ‘this time I’m standing on my feet/I’m making roads to a brand new street’ and ‘this time we’re gonna get it right/I’m seeing things in a brand new light.’” - Chris Conti, The Providence Phoenix

“Never Ending is a huge hit waiting to happen IMHO. I Iove it big time…my little girl digs it too, bops all around the house when I play it.” - Elwood Francis aka Masked Elwood
